It is fig season
and nothing sits more
embodied in my mind
than the memory of candied figs.
A delicacy in Brazil,
candied figs sit
vibrant green in a candy
dish, bathed in clove-
infused syrup.
I’m invited to try one.
It’s like eating a fresh fig
draped in syrup,
drenched in syrup
It’s delicious.
From then on, I dream
of candied figs bursting
like sunshine drops on my tongue. Simple.
Syrupy. Sweet.
